With a Mazda rotary parked in my garage right now (yes, in running
condition, needs a paint job though), and another Mazda I have parked
at work right now, I have to say  the current crop of Mazdas appeals to
me aesthetically. They seem to have shaken off the Ford influence that
that resulted in some blah designs early on in Ford's tenure (like the
Millenia). The rotary's been reliable; I remember one winter's day,
when my Ford van died in the outskirts of Columbus (due to Ford
bean-counter "innovations" in the transmission design); had it towed
back to Dayton, hopped into the RX-7 (which had by then been sitting in
the garage essentially unused with a whining wheel bearing) for 6
months, well, I had to pump up a slow-leaking tire, and drove it to DC
and back with no incident.

But you have to watch the oil level in these things.
