I have been trying to find statistics on the pattern of sales of various technologies to the consumer market from the date of introduction to the current year. What I want to do is to chart the various curves, relate those curves to technology that is being developed and/or has recently been introduced. The resultant charts will be used to provide some framework for budget planning in our large school district. For example, what did the sales curve of color television look like and can it be used to plan for the obsolescence of NTSC in our schools when HDTV becomes a consumer product? Any pointers toward appropriate sources of information will be greatly appreciated!
