HOT INTERCONNECTS II A Symposium on High-Performance Interconnects Sponsored by the Technical Committee on Microprocessors and Microcomputers of the IEEE Computer Society. Stanford University Memorial Audiorium Palo Alto, CA August 11-13, 1994 Attend Hot Interconnects II, a symposium focusing on the architecture and implementation of high performance interconnects of all scales. Hot Interconnects offers a broad technical program emphasizing real solutions. Enjoy the informal format offering interaction with speakers and the chance to share experiences with professionals working on a range of interconnect types. Presentations will include the latest products as well as current research. See what's hot in ATM, PCI, SuperClusters, MPPs, WANs and more! This is an advance program. Sessions may be dropped, added or moved between days. Get the latest information on the conference via xmosaic or ftp on WWW from URL: file:://now.cs.berkeley.edu/pub/html/HotI THURSDAY, AUGUST 11, 1994 8:45-9:00 Welcome and Opening Remarks 9:00-10:00 Keynote Presentation High-Speed Host Interfaces to ATM Networks Dave Sincoskie, Bellcore 10:30-12:00 ATM Cards ATM: Integration with Legacy LANS, Applications & Networks in Use Today George Prodan, FORE Systems, Inc. McCabe This tutorial will describe the reasons for developing ATM, potential applications for ATM based supercomputer networks, and the evolution towards services-based networking. 2) Introduction to PCI Design by Tim Mostad This tutorial will give an overview of the Peripheral Component Interconnect, PCI, which is highly likely to become the choice for the new generations of powerful microprocessor based systems. 3) Digital Audio and Video by Lawrence A. Rowe This tutorial will describe the human audio and visual systems, the major compression standards, and their interactions. This knowledge is needed for the first part of the afternoon tutorial. 1:30-5:00 AFTERNOON TUTORIALS 4) FibreChannel by the FibreChannel Association This tutorial will present the advantages, the overview, the status, and future directions of Fibre Channel. 5) Multimedia Infrastructure and Surfing the Internet by Lawrence A. Rowe This tutorial will cover multimedia infrastructure including hardware platforms, network technology, storage systems, and software, and will survey possible future directions and standards. The latter part is a beginners' guide to using mosaic to cruise the internet. Luncheon is included in the $100 fee per tutorial.
