I believe that there is a need to proliferate the ieee.xxxxx
newsgroups.
The following ieee. newsgroups exist:
ieee.announce
ieee.config
ieee.general
ieee.pcnfs
ieee.region1 (there is a threat to delete this one)
However, as pointed out to me at IEEE headquarters there is
virtually no traffic on these boards.
Yet the IEEE has 250,000+ members in the United States alone and
over 300,000 members worldwide. Don't we need a forum to talk?
For my particular interests, I would like to see the following
established:
ieee.region6
ieee.region6.PACE
ieee.sfba_calendar
ieee.PACE_Reg_Act_Comm
and I would like to see similar newsgroups for the other regions,
sections, councils, divisions, societies, and chapters.
There is reluctance on the part of headquarters to establish more
newsgroups because the ones we have now are not used. It was
suggested that I put all my postings on ieee.general.
Therefore, that's exactly what I am going to do. And I encourage
others to do likewise. If we establish enough traffic, we'll get
all the specialized newsgroups we need.
I will head my postings ieee.region6, ieee.region6.PACE, etc. if
I think they should have their own newsgroup. That also will
allow users of the newsgroup to exercise some selectivity.
I encourage others to do likewise.
Ok, Let's get started!
