TO: REGION 6 SECTION AND AREA PACE CHAIRPERSONS
REGION 6 PACE SUBCOMMITTEE MEMBERS
FROM: Wayne E. Amacher, Region 6 PACE Chairman
SUBJECT: ATTEND THE 1992 NATIONAL PACE WORKSHOP
----------------------------------------------------
1992 NATIONAL PACE WORKSHOP
By now you should have received your invitation to
attend the 1992 National PACE Workshop over Labor
Day weekend in Phoenix, AZ, at the Pointe Hilton at
Squaw Peak. This is the PACE event of the year!
Who should attend? Attendees should include:
Region 6 Area PACE Chairs
Region 6 Council PACE Chairs
Region 6 Section PACE Chairs
Region 6 Regional PACE Subcommittee Members
A roster is attached.
Any other IEEE members who wish to attend at their
own or their Section's expense are welcome.
FUNDING $$: PACE/SECTION SHARING
Travel of the Region 6 PACE representatives listed
above will be funded by a special Region 6
allocation provided by the IEEE-USA PACE Workshop
Committee. However, there's a catch, the allocation
isn't sufficient for our normal attendence.
Therefore, each PACE Chairperson must ask his
section to share in his/her expenses.
Wealthy sections should try to cover all expenses so
that the allocation can cover the poorer sections.
On the average, sections need to cover 50% of the
expense ($250 or more). Alaska and Hawaii are special cases. Please
call me to approve
your expenses.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
All attendees have been advised to use Thomas Cook Travel, 1-800-
222-ENGR, and to make airline reservations early. Identify
yourself as traveling to the IEEE PACE Conference. Please check with
your own travel service to see if it can beat Thomas Cook's prices.
It also pays to check with the airline directly using their 800
number. Airlines know their own fares best!
The maximum reimbursable cost from the airport to the Pointe
Hilton is $11 each way for the hotel van.
MEALS
Keep meal costs on your expense reports to a minimum. Scheduled
meals during the workshop are provided from other IEEE-USA funds
exclusive of your expense report.
EXPENSE REPORTS
When you fill out your expense report please be sure to deduct
the amount shared (paid) by your section so that the bottom line
is clearly the amount to be charged to the special IEEE-USA PACE
allocation.
Please fill in the attached mailer and mail it to me as soon as
possible, because I must tell IEEE-USA ahead of time how much of
the expenses each section will share.
Sorry about all the discussion on expenses. Region 6 members -
you - have always come through in the past. My personal thanks
to all of you for your help. The PACE program is very important
to our careers as engineers. let's keep Region 6 pro-active in
PACE.
QUALIFYING FOR PACE FUNDING
We are encouraging all PACE Chairpersons to attend.
If a section PACE Chairperson is unable to attend, the section
may send a substitute (such as an incoming PACE Chairperson or
the Section Chairperson).
Now, think a little bit. If you have been PACE Chairperson
several years and have done little or nothing, then you should
not attend! In fact you have a moral obligation to relinquish
your PACE Chair to someone who will do something and allow
him/her to attend.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If you have any questions about the PACE Workshop, dates, time,
location, or have not received your packet from Headquarters,
call Ann Hartfiel, at 202-785-0017.
ADVANCE APPROVAL OF EXPENSES
For approval of unusual expenses call me, Wayne E. Amacher, at
408-732-0810 (H). Otherwise use the mailer.
PACE WORKSHOP ATTENDANCE/EXPENSE MAILER
Please fill out the attached PACE Workshop Attendance and expense
Mailer and return it to me as soon as possible.
PACE CHAIRPERSONS CHANGES
If you are no longer your section's PACE Chairperson, please pass
this information on to your section's new PACE chairperson as
quickly as possible. Use a copy of the mailer to inform me of
the new PACE Chairperson. Your co-operation is greatly
appreciated.
PACE CHAIRPERSON'S ACTIVITY REPORT MAILER
Also enclosed is an explanatory letter and a "PACE CHAIRPERSON'S
ACTIVITY REPORT" mailer which you are requested to fill out so
that your Section will be included in the Region 6 portion of the
Workshop Report. I need your report by August 19. (Ann
Hartfiel will be deeply grateful if you also send her a copy!)
Please fill out the activity report mailer and mail it to me as
soon as possible whether you plan to attend or not. Your Section
will be listed in the PACE Workshop Report. If I don't receive a
report there will be a blank space after your Section's name.
Your PACE Workshop expenses will not be reimbursed until your
report is received.
ORIENTATION FOR NEW PACE LEADERS
At the workshop, Friday, September 4, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., an
Orientation for PACE Leaders will be presented. If you are a
new PACE Chair, please plan to arrive at the workshop in time to
attend the orientation. The orientation will cover material that
is global in scope and is common to all regions. Experienced
PACE Leaders as well as new PACE Leaders are welcome to attend.
REGION 6 PACE MEETINGS AT THE WORKSHOP
We will get together in a Regional meeting twice at the workshop.
Regional meetings are planned:
Friday, 09/04/92 -- 9:00 p.m. - open
Sunday, 09/06/92 -- 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
At these meetings we will:
- Continue the orientation by presenting the PACE Program as
specific for Region 6 along any other topics specific to
Region 6.
- Collect all PACE activity reports that have not been mailed in
so that they can be prepared for the Workshop final report.
- Have section PACE reports, 1-3 minutes each. Prepare with an
outline and practice to keep to the 1-3 minutes.
- Get feedback from the sections relevant to the PACE Workshop
- Discuss any resolutions to be presented to the plenary for a
vote on Monday. Resolutions must be of significance.
- Remind you of the importance of filling out and returning the
Workshop rating forms.
MONDAY'S PLENARY SESSION:
Each Regional PACE Coordinator will have six minutes to report on
his Region and to present resolutions.
Resolutions must be of significance. They will be last on the
agenda on Monday, so please be prepared to stay till 12:00 p.m.
There will be rules for resolutions. Please request a copy from
me.
OTHER WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES
Four training sessions have been scheduled Friday, prior to the
opening of the workshop:
Advancing the IEEE-USA Legislative Agenda
Facilitator Training for the Careers Phase II Workshop
Facilitator Training for the Career Transitions Workshop
Facilitator Training for the Sections Job Seekers Workshop
You have to find your own funds to attend one of these, if over
and above the cost to attend the PACE workshop. I will consider PACE Project fundi
ng requests if your section cannot cover the
additional expense.
EMAIL
If you have an Email address, please provide it to me on the
attached mailer. I will get you an alias at ieee.org.
I will post this letter on the newsgroup ieee.general as a test

the bulleted list will go into the PACE Annual Report and
Workshop Record which will be mailed to you after the Workshop.
The PACE Annual Report and Workshop Record including your
bulleted list will also be presented to the United States
Activities Board to show that PACE is alive, active, and
deserving of its funding.
ARTICLES FOR IMPACT
Second, The detailed part of your report will be reviewed by the editor
of IMPACT and used as a basis for a series of articles describing
new and on-going PACE activities in the sections and regions.

Please complete it and return it to me (just refold it with the
address outside, staple, stamp, and mail).
Please submit your report by 19 August so that copies of all the
