Tired of living in crummy run down places in Evanston and Chicago? Make
the move UP--to Linden St (and near the el) in Wilmette!

I have a beautiful studio that will be available on March 21. Since the
March rent will be paid, that means you get over a week to move in, free.

The Cost: $550/month. I know, it looks like a lot for a "studio."
However, if you read on, and perhaps take a look at the place, I'm sure
you'll agree with me that the place is easily worth the money. I found
it by getting off the Linden el stop one day out of curiosity. As soon
as I saw the place, I knew I had to have it. Living in East Edgewater
just wasn't doing it for me.

The Apartment:
It is first floor--not ground floor. So no-one will be coming in through
the windows. Not that there's a lot of crime to speak of in Wilmette,
anyway.

Though technically called a studio, it's actually as big as some 1BR's
I've seen for more money in Chicago. There is both a front door off the
inside stairway (leading to the lobby; door has chain, bolt, and lock) ,
and a back door to a covered porch area leading down to the on premises
storage areas and laundry room. The storage locker is gigantic, by the
way--8 feet high by 4 feet wide by 10' deep, at least.

From the front door there is a small foyer/coat area, leading into a
large main room which is carpeted. A bowed window area faces into the
courtyard and catches the warm late afternoon sun (a real plus in my
book). A large walk in closet and good sized bathroom are off to one
side. The bathroom has the basic plumbing and heater with a big medicine
cabinet. The closet is enormous--I put my entire wardrobe, dresser,
spare boxes and equipment in it. Steam heat is powerful, with radiators
in the dining nook (see below), main room, and bathroom. The ceiling is
close to 10' high. You have to see the space to believe it.

Swinging glass paned French doors separate the main room from the kitchen
and dining nook. The doors are fully functioning and very cool to boot.
The dining nook is hardwood floor, the kitchen is tiled. Gas stove,
normal sized (i.e. family-sized) fridge, and LOTS of space. The
apartment architecture accentuates cabinet and closet space as well as
containing lots of funky features like a working transom and the French
doors. I have been totally unable to fill even half of the cabinet space
in the kitchen area, as well as the coat closet in the foyer. Outlets
and phone jacks also abound. There is a cable jack, although I never
used it.

The Location:

510 5th St in Wilmette, on the corner of Linden and 5th St. One block
from the Linden el stop, so you have transportation. Street parking is
available and generally plentiful for those with cars. A grocery store,
cleaners (a really good one, I might add), video store, pharmacy, and
hardware store are all located on Linden. Linden, by the way, is the
street that the B'hai temple is on--you can see it from the apartment
building.

The area is very quiet, very safe, and very residential. The building is
of sound 1920s architecture replete with a courtyard/fountain area and
expansive lobbies. Security doors in the lobby, with a callup right to
your phone.

The neighbors are all extremely friendly--I have had UPS leave packages
for me that were never touched day or night, and one Sunday when snow
fell people went out with shovels and cleared the walkways. They could
have waited for the maintenance guy to do it Monday morning, but they
didn't. That's the kind of place it is.

The Skinny:

I'm moving to Washington DC and need to either sublet or relet the place.
I'm comfortable with both, but my landlord (Cyrus Realtors) has informed
me that their security check costs nothing, and that they'd be willing to
relet to a new person. My current lease runs until September, so if you
just sublet you can either sign a lease or move out at that point. My
name is Jim McNaught, my phone number is (708) 853-8719. I have a
message machine, so just leave me your name and number if I'm not right
there. I'll be happy to show you around the building and the apartment
anytime.
