PLEASE NOTE:
This is a CROSSPOST to _five_ groups!
(I have found no way of setting "follow-up:", sorry.)
I have a rather naïve question... (I think ;-)
Please, make/give me some suggestions/ideas that (may) be usable for this...
I'd like to be able to do the following connection:
*) Sun Solaris LAN - 10BaseT
<-->
*) 386 PC, 1M RAM, 2x20MB XT HD, 10BaseT/ISA, 1S(15550) 1P/EPP? port.
1x5.25" 360K & 1x3.5" 720K disk-drives.
<--=PPP/SLIP/CSLIP @ 115.2K+ *or* PLIP =-->
*) Amiga 1200 (see below),
capable of AT LEAST 115.2K serial comm.
40-50K(+?)/sec parallell comm.
Cause:
The pricetag on a PCMCIA ethernet card for the Amiga is $300+, 8-|
(~10x the cost of a usable card for a PC :-( )
As I am no wealthy person I'd like to keep this on as low a budget as
possible. Also considering that the sole thing I want the PC to be
is "a connection to the net".
I have access to 8-BIT PLIP and a bunch of PPP/[C]SLIP drivers for my
Amiga.
I believe myself of beeing *a bit* of a "hacker" (x86/68K Asm, C, C++...).
But I have very little knowledge about TCP/IP, especially when using
PC's, and the availability of software for this kind of solution.
Linux seems to be out of the question as docs states that it requires 2-4M
RAM to start with - and also; I'd have to buy an 1.44M (3.5") drive to be
able to use the "Slackware" installation f.ex.
"Thank you's" for any response, in advance...

At this point I have it connecting to my local network but not to the world. I think this is the type of thing you are looking for. I think I ftp'd it from warum.uni-mannheim.de hopefully this does what you want. -ed
