Press Release ABIT's BH6 and BX6 Become The Clear Choices For Overclockers In Tom's Overclocking Special Report Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. December, 21, 1998- When Tom comes out with a new article or report you know you will get the full scoop. On Dec. 15th Toms Hardware Guide published a new Overclocking Special report that pitted some of the best motherboards in the business against 9 special overclocking CPUs that Tom wanted to test. The result was that the performance, stability and features of ABIT's BH6 made it the clear front runner when overclocking. The BH6 has now become famous for its ability to overclock, especially in tandem with Intel's Celeron 300A CPU, specifically the SL2W8. It's no secret among the overclocking crowd. In a test of CPUs and the motherboards that run them, Tom had 9 SL2W8 CPUs tested with 20 leading motherboards. He tested the ability to get the CPUs designed to run at 300MHz to be overclocked to 450MHz and 504MHz. Only one board was up to the challenge: ABIT's BH6. "504MHz (is) somewhat hard to reach. The only board that ran all of the CPU's at 504MHz was ABIT's BH6." The board that performed second best was none other than, ABIT's BX6. Out of the nine CPUs tested, the BX6 was able to successfully overclock 8 of them, showing a better performance than any other board except the BH6. Clearly there is a theme here; the ABIT quality. Motherboard: ABIT BH6 Number of SL2W8 CPUs running at 450 MHz: all Number of SL2W8 CPUs running at 504 MHz: all Comments: "excellent stability, at 504 MHz the voltage had to be raised to 2.2 V only for one CPU (0376), memory problem with 256 MB DIMM still not sorted out with latest BIOS, but LG memory works now" Motherboard: ABIT BX6 Number of SL2W8 CPUs running at 450 MHz: all Number of SL2W8 CPUs running at 504 MHz: 8 of 9 Comments: "Board would not work at 504 MHz with CPU 0376, even when voltage was increased to 2.3 V. Four CPUs needed 2.2 V to run at 504 MHz". After finishing with these test results Tom states, "In overclocker circles it's the only real thing, ABIT's BH6. The reason for this is certainly its stability, but the main success of the BH6 is based on its 'SoftMenu II', giving you the chance of changing the core voltage of your CPU." Raising the core voltage of your CPU is a feature of ABIT's Soft Menu II technology. So far ABIT is the only company with this technology. In fact while Tom does not necessarily advocate raising the core voltage, he does offer a way for people to adjust the core voltage on other boards but explains that "Unfortunately you cannot simulate a 'connected to Vss' or 'closed' condition, which impairs you a little bit and makes the solution in the BH6 still more flexible" As Tom points out, Soft Menu II has the core raising ability that allowed him to successfully overclock his Celeron CPUs and more importantly, to do it with great stability. The BH6 runs and runs while other boards will often crash. This is exemplary of the high quality that ABIT puts in its boards. After running 20 different boards under extreme conditions Tom states, "As you can see, the ABIT BH6 is by far the most stable board, and I can understand that everyone is recommending it for overclockers and the use with SL2W8" If the BH6 can run an overclocked CPU with such great stability, you know that it will run every thing else as smooth as silk.
