For Immediate Release May 16, 1994 Conquering Cancer: From the Lab to the Clinic PASADENACaltech will host a symposium called Conquering Cancer: From the Lab to the Clinic, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, in Ramo Auditorium. Moderated by physician and television journalist Art Ulene, the discussion of current research into the causes and treatments of cancer will involve six biologists and cancer researchers, three each from Caltech and from the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, which are cosponsoring the event. Because roughly one in five people in developed countries will eventually die from cancer, the biomedical community has dedicated enormous resources to finding effective treatments for cancer, as well as its root causes. Today there is a universal sense among scientists that we are getting closer to realistic therapeutic interventions for this insidious disease. This symposium offers an opportunity to learn about the interaction between the basic research being done in the laboratories at Caltech and the clinical applications of that research taking place at the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Admission is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. To order tickets, call the Caltech Public Events Office at (818) 395-4652 or (800) 423-8849. People with disabilities can order tickets and make special arrangements by calling (818) 395-4688 (voice) or (818) 395-3700 (TDD).
