didnt Clifford Still work in NewYork during the heyday of the 50s? Check out 
Arnason"s History of Modern Art. I seem to remember him painting some things 
that were lines angled from midway on the horizontal to midwat on the 
vertical on the bottom------------------------------

and continuing like that till it got to the centre at the bottom. I cant 
give you anymore info than that right now
