Dear Teachers,

I have been just hired as an new art teahcer by an elementary school in New
York with sudden notice. I have found out that I will be teaching more than 500
pupils for Grade 1 through 6 and 7-8 classes a day! The principal did not tell
me that I will do the work for two teachers when I had a job interview with
him.

Since the appointment was so late that I have not well prepared for such an
extradinary demand, I would like to have kind assistance from you. I would
appreciate if you could advise me on the following:

	1. Where could I find art curriculum information, lesson plans and
projects, if available, for pupils from Grade 1 through 6?

	2. Where could I find good books or articles or papers on "how to teach
multicultural art projects appropriate for Grade 1 throuh 6" ? I would like to
have some creative ideas that can be used in class with these children at
different levels of skills.

I am a very devoted teacher, but I was not given enough time to prepare
for the unexpectedly demanding job. But I would do my best. I would greatly
appreciate if anyone kindly give me good advice on the above.

Thank you very much in advance.

	Mary

Hello Mary,

I have a book that may be helpful to you:

Lesson in Art by Robert Henkes

It covers lessons for:

Drawing
Painting
2D and 3D activities
Spur of the Moment Activities
Practical Exercise in Art Appreciation

Its is great book for Junior High Students, but I think that you can get
some good ideas from it.

I find myself in a similar situation as you except for that I am working
with Grade 8 students and need lesson plans for teaching art on MacIntosh
computers. We are using a software package named "SuperPaint." If you
come across any lesson plan information related to computers please send
it my way also.

Thank you and Good Luck with your school year.

-Doug
