Dear Eileen,

I saw your message:

-> I am finishing up the certification program by student teaching. I
-> will bet eaching Algebra 1, 3 sections of Algebra 2, and a Calculus
-> course. Can anyone give me the
-> name of some books to review Calculus ? Is there any advice one could
-> give to me as to classroom management?

I have some recommendations for you.

I, myself, just reviewed Calculus in May of 1991, which was 12 years
after I had taken the course. So, it was a long time since I had done
it. I found the _Beginning Calculus_ by Elliot Mendelson from the
Schaum's Outline Series very helpful. It was readable, with many
examples, and practice problems with answers in the back. The book is
about $13 at most bookstores. Also from the Schaum's Outline series,
but nowhere near as good, is _Calculus 3rd edition_. I really think the
_Beginning Calculus from that series is much better.

If you are interested in readable textbooks,
from Heath publishing company, I would recommend the Larson &
Hoetstetler Calculus text. Also, very good, is from PWS_KEnt
(distributed by Wadsworth publishers) the new 1990 version of
Swokowski's Calculus. VERY readable. As a matter of fact, it is the text
that I have selected for our school to adopt for next year's calculus
class. If you need phone numbers or adresses for these companies, let me
know. They are at school, but I can get them if you like.

For classroom management, let me recommend
_Every Minute Counts:Making your math class work_

and

_Making Minutes Count Even More: A Sequel to Every Minute Counts_

both by David R. Johnson and both from Dale Seymour publications. Do you
need adresses for that? Or oder phone numbers? I believe these little
gems run about $7 each.

Hope this helps,
Sheila
