Dear Soozi,
I saw your response to Austin Miller re counseling and think that it represents a view that is rather shortsighted. Counseling forchildren is one of the regular education services that can be termed 'pre-referral': in other words, if there is intention to avoid special education services longterm, then counseling may be one avenue to that destination. Also, in my experience, it is most unfortunate if special educators or anyone else in a school see themselves as set apart from the education team wh
ich serves all children. Anyone who comes in contact with a child - art teacher, gym teacher, cafeteria assistant, etc., can contribute to the well-being of the child - and that surely includes counselors.
I do see the need to have some clusters of interests such asspecial education on the computer, but I hope the clusters do not become so
distinct as to exclude those with interests which intersect or overlap with a field of interest.
Eclectically yours, Carol Rundberg
