Help with out Tech Lab

I was just given a request to update and add to our Tech Lab. This is a lab
which has one (or at most two) stations including various technologies.
This is not a class, but a part of many classes; students range from
very bright to definitely below average, and are from 9th grade through 12th.
Here is a list of stations we currently have:

	Speech Synthesis (Echo Speech Synthesizer)
Fiber Optics (I forget the company whose kit we have)
	Digital Scanning (ThunderScan)
	CAD (Pointe Cad)
	Voice Recognition (Voice Navigator II)
	Robot Arm (Scorbot)
Moving Robot (an original MIT turtle and a HERO robot)
Laser Disk (Pioneer 2400? Laserdisk machine with a Macintosh
computer and the National Gallery of Art disk with a stack)

We also have access to an actual laser, a CAD/CAM setup (Light Machines Co),
some electronic modules (I can't recall the manufacturer right now) and
a CD-ROM player.

Most of these stations are in need of updating - the equipment in many
cases doesn't run well and is kind of old.

Can anyone suggest either new stations or some equipment we should think
about using? We might have a fairly large amount of money available
for this, so price isn't the issue (but we don't want to purchase a
machine that costs $20k, for example). In particular, for speech
synthesis, is there a reasonable alternative?

I could use manufacturers and even some idea of prices.

Any help would be definitely appreciated. I can summarize for
the net. Please email your responses. I need this info rather soon -
I have an Oct 21 deadline.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
