Hi Chris,

It is great to hear about your space simulation project. The students
and Staff at Taft Middle School in Lincoln City Oregon also created
a Space Shuttle Simulation to celebrate 1992, International Space
Year.

We constructed a space shuttle simulator based on NASAs Space
Transportation System. The heart of our simulation was one computer
and a video cassette recorder. We synchronized at shuttle tracking
program (available free from NASA) with video footage from the shuttle
which corresponds with the position of the shuttle. This "program"
was run from launch through orbiter re-entry.

While in flight, students preformed health and science experiments,
prepared food, and communicated with mission control via AM and FM
transcievers. At the end of the flight, the flight commander and
pilot brought the shuttle down using a modified version of Microsoft
flight and landed at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The computer
simulation used actual scenery from the landing area.

The project was very successful and is now being duplicated around
the country and in Canada, Australia, and England. If you would like
more information, feel free to contact me via this BBS.

We put over 500 students through our program last year and had a lot
of fun. Good luck with yours.

Joe Novello

PS. The actual cost of the program was $400.
