Hi I can't post on channel 9 yet. I guess I haven't notified my SysOp yet. so I'll just put this here for now. Birds: The headlines read: ÒThe Eagle has landedÓ. Thirteen Bald Eagles have arrived at Coeur dÕAlene Lake to feed on dying Kokanee Salmon. Kokanee Salmon die after spawning. The Eagles arrive every year in December and stay through January before continuing south to Utah to feed on jackrabbits. In the next few weeks 30-40 more eagles are expected. There is a saying here that you know that winter has arrived when the Eagles arrive. Coeur dÕAlene Lake is in Idaho, just 30 miles from Spokane. The Lake empties into the Spokane River which flows to the Columbia and on to the Pacific. Weather: First week in December was clear and cold (.20Õs F days and 0-10 F. nights) Second week we have had snow showers every other day (2 inches at a time) with warming during days. About format for GEW: I like the informal observations in each of the categories of your earlier posts, i.e. weather, birds, animals, plants, minibeasts. I think that increasing observational powers of students is enough of a goal. This could be postings like Global Village News. It has been quite successful. Sometimes there conversations but most often short items which out students read and discuss briefly. Have you established a closed or open channel.?
