Dear Adrienne,
Elizabeth, Will, Leslie, Roslyn Evan, Katie, and Mary.
Iwas very pleased to receive your letter. A city block can be as interesting as any park or garden. If you look ( and from your letter I can see you have looked very hard) you can find some very amazing things.
It sounds like the plants are beginning to prepare for their winter sleep where you are. Here the plants have been awaking from the long winter. The apple in my backyard is beginning to bloom. The flowers haven't blossomed quite yet but the buds in which they have been hiding through the winter have opened.
I went for a walk down to the lake near my home. It is not a big lake but there were ducks, a big beautiful black swan, a silver seagull and two cormorants. Cormorants are interesting birds. They live on fish and when they swim most of their body floats under the water with only their long necks and heads looking out above. The are good underwater swimmers and swim some distance under the water in search of food. They have to careful at the lake because every now and then they get all catch up in a f

ishing line. It is very sad when this happens.
What color was the grasshopper that you saw? How many legs did it have? I just wonder how far a grasshopper can jump?
Cheers Jimbo Down Under
