Hi Helen,

I'd like to do Global Village News again this year. This time, I'd like to have a time period of 8 weeks. The format will be much the same as before, with participants perusing their local newspapers for items of interest. It should be open to all participants. The five schools who "post the most" will receive...something. Official recognition? Certificates? Ribbons?

Something.

We could begin GVN, say, September 14 and end on October 23. I'll go along with whatever beginning and ending dates you think are best.

The purpose of GVN is to promote intercultural awareness between and among students across the U.S. and around the world. In the process, they will invariably learn about their own communities. They will also be forced to READ THE NEWSPAPER, something far too few students do nowadays.

I think last year's GVN was at least moderately successful. I think lack of a timeline caused interest to dwindle towards the end. If participants know they have only 8 weeks to "play," maybe they'll be more eager to get involved.

                                        Best regards,
                                        Chris
