How about the >Kansas abortion bill? Good, too restrictive, not restrictive enough?!? Let's >hear some action! Hi Jesse! Abortion? In this group! Whoa! This is not a very good ice breaker. Let's talk about KU-Manhattan. Why does KU want to usurp K-State's academic computing? Well, I guess that's a pretty defensive topic. We'll drop that one too. I would like to know (actually) what the undergraduate computer science programs are like in other schools across the state. Do you get experience working on multi-user environments? What operating systems do you work with primarily? DOS, UNIX, VMS? What languages do you come out having learned? Here at K-State, freshman typically use DOS boxes to learn Pascal. The assembly course is taught on PDP-11's, running RT11. The introductory OS course is taught with a UNIX system, and introduces students to C. The Software Engineering course is taught with C as well, and students typically use SunOS running X11R5. The typical student will come out without any VMS experience at all. Recently, every student on campus is allowed a UNIX account on matt.ksu.ksu.edu, usually limited to a 2 meg disk quota. matt is a Solbourne, configured with 4 processors. As usual, any student may also have an account on the IBM box, KSUVM, which has (to my knowledge (i am not too sure)) MVS and CMS. There are a few PC labs here and there. G'night, Gracie. >Jesse C.
