Let's take a trip down Washington Blvd., starting in Culver City and heading towards the sea: First we encounter the Tito's Tacos, a venerable institution located on Washington Blvd. just at the 405 overpass. Tito's is a walk-up taco/burrito stand. Cheap and popular, though it's not my favorite. Adjacent to Tito's is Lucy's, which is located all over the LA area and has so-so food. At Washington Blvd. and Inglewood, in the old Olympus Castle Drive-In we encounter El Castillo, possibly the finest fast-food-style Mexican restaurant on the West side. A tremendous bargain, friendly staff and excellent food. Reminscent of the best of Mexican roadside taco stands. Next is Paco's, on Centinela just south of Washington Blvd. It's a fine little restaurant, with funky decor and handmade tortillas, always a plus. Dora's is on Washington Blvd. about a block west of where the two Washingtons rejoin. It's a sit-down family-style restaurant, and the menu has a few unusual items. Dora's doesn't accept credit cards or checks, but it's a nice place for a quiet meal. Quality of the food varies, but is usually good. Then we come to La Cocina, a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant on Washington Blvd. (sense a theme here?) about two blocks before Lincoln Blvd. It's nothing spectacular, but it is conveniently located on the way to the Marina Del Rey cinemas. It's easy to miss because it's tucked alongside a flower shop. Finally, about a block before the ocean there's an upscale yuppie Mexican restaurant located on the north side of the street. I forget the name, but the food is actually fine, albeit a little overpriced. Next, Sepulveda Blvd to the Valley: A Dining Marathon! :-) -- Scott T.
