It has been closed, except as a fequently used movie set, for about two years, the parking lots - empty. When did you eat there last? It was opulent, huge, with several dining areas, the large central room was thirty feet tall with stained glass windows, marble columns, and a large granite bar. The food varied from good to superb, was inexpensively priced, they had their own pastry chef, and reportedly had the second best cellar in southern California. They had a wine book not a wine list, easily 200 choices, priced at near cost, and they would sell it to good customers by the case. This I know. I ate there once a week for years. Often, there would be singers Saturday nights, such as an opera soloist accompanied on piano. Unfortunately, I am told that the owner died and that the wife didn't want to manage the place and so it was closed. The restaurant was a personal crusade of the owner. It's too bad that he's gone. For the last year or two that it was open, food became more spotty. Some days they were on top of things, some days not. The cellar size began to shrink. Clearly the keen supervision that once characterized the place was missing. -- Gregory Finn (310) 822-1511 Information Sciences Institute, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292
