It was a friend's birthday last weekend, and I used the occasion as an excuse to go to Chinois on Main, where I've long wanted to eat. I was very impressed overall with the experience. The place is actually easy to miss, tucked away on Main across the street and down the block a bit from World Cafe. We were fairly early in the evening, so the place hadn't filled when we got there, tho' it was full when we left. We started with Ahi tuna sashimi tempura, which was absolutely out of this world. We ordered vegetable fried rice and barbequed salmon in some sort of basil sauce over noodles for the main course. We didn't any desert there because we had birthday cake waiting for us. Everything was perfectly done; some of the best food I've ever had, which is saying something. The service was exceptional. I don't know if it is that good later at night, but it couldn't have been better. The decor is really well done. I just loved this place. The final bill was $70, but we didn't have any wine, so if you're a drinker your bill will be higher. -- Hack first, -Rick Muller ask questions later rpm@wag.caltech.edu
