I think there are two issues here: 1. What 'the standard' is doesn't really say much about how easy it is to find quality beef. Maybe high quality beef isn't 'the standard' in the US, but nevertheless I find it incredibly easy to find. The beef may not have even been produced in the US. That doesn't really matter when discussing how easy to find quality beef is. 2. The beef in a lot of countries is poor. Lots of countries won't even import beef from the EU because of BSE fears. Some countries, like Argentina and Australia, produce excellent beef. Other places, like SE Asia, tend to produce really poor meat. It's not just an matter of how the beef is raised, but also how it is packaged, transported, stored, and inspected. Many countries lag the US when it comes to these. Dimitri
