If the food was so much better than the competition then perhaps the atmosphere would be less important. It isn't. Or perhaps if it was so much cheaper than the competition then the atmosphere could be ignored. It isn't. So what is the allure? It's a good restaurant, but not distinguished in any way. >The test I'm applying here is very simple: If the restaurant were >in my town, would I go? Bistro Jeanty, yes. Ahwahnee, no. (Tra >Vigne rates a maybe.) Kind of a silly test. This depends a lot on your town first of all. That aside, there are restaurants I frequent for cheap fare that I still don't consider all that good - and there are far better restaurants that I do not visit because at that price point there are better alternatives. I found both Bistro Jeanty and Tra Vigne to be average for their price points. That is, neither of them were bad enough to rule out another visit. However, neither of them were good enough to halt my search for something better. If the only three restaurants in my town were Jeanty, Tra Vigne, and the Ahwahnee then, based on my recent meals, I'd probably go to all three. However, if I wanted to treat myself to a special night out I'd choose Ahwahnee over the other two. Of course, this is based on only a single meal at each. Dimitri
