I received an IM from the girlfriend that we were
meeting friends for dinner at Quantum. A good name for a software
company but a restaurant?

They have a flash infested website and no, they don't
call themselves a restaurant, oh no. They are "Quantum Kitchen and
cocktails". Makes you think you might be leaning against the range
while slurping a martini.

I walked down there and our friends were there. Yes, it
is in fact, just a restaurant, what is first noticeable is that t
used to be strip mall and all the spaces have been joined
together.

We approached the podium where the hostess stood. She
inquired whether we had a reservation. My friend said that she
had called and been told that a reservation wouldn't be needed.
The hostess did what all restaurants that serve more 'tude than
food do, she looked at us as if we had an infectious disease.
This was not a good sign.

After being made to look like worthless refugees, we were
informed that maybe there would be a table ready in 10 minutes.
Could we sit at the bar. Hardly had we sat at the bar than we
were told there was a table for us. It happened to be a table by
the door that was vacant when we came in.

Having been seated we looked at the menus. The menu had
several headings such as "bites", "to share", "fries and other
delightful things". Under "specialties", were several burgers and
fish and chips. We all chose the fish and chips.

The fish was of some unknown type, and covered in a
reasonable batter. The fries were OK.

The decor was hard surfaces in that trendoid cafe style
raising the noise level and making conversation difficult. The
rest of the clientele seemed to consist of skinny women in their
twenties and young en who really needed to go home and shave, or
stay home and grow a beard,

I won't be going back. Not because the food was inedible,
but because it was over priced for what it was and the place was
far too pretentious.

Best single-sentence description of a social class I've ever read.
