And just who is the 'government'.   They are US - we are the ones who 
want all the services - does any Senator or Representative get voted out 
for bringing home TO MUCH Pork?  

Problem is you and I probably won't agree and what is and isn't 
necessary spending.  

Remember that originally people who retired only collected SS for 2-3 
years and then died.   Medicare changed that - we got money to take care 
of people who were elderly.  The way to get more money is to keep them 
alive longer - so research exploded and people live longer and SS and 
Medicare are in trouble.
