I think any discussion focusing on too lax vs. too strenuous misses the
point.  It's not a question of whether LAX's security measures go too far or
not far enough, but whether they go in a direction that makes sense at all.
None of the new "security" measures I've heard of would have done a f'n
thing to prevent a group of terrorists from doing exactly the same thing
here that they did on the East Coast on 9/11.  It's a little like setting
out to drive from Los Angeles to Houston, heading north on I-5, ending up in
Seattle, and then wondering aloud, "Gee, did I go too far, or not far
enough?"
