(For those who prefer mnemonics to numbers, that's (800) CC-RIDER.)

MD's already got you in good hands; I only chime in on this one to let
you know my experiences with this very training.

Overall I found it worthwhile. It is sanctioned by the State of
California because they give you a certificate that substitutes for the
DMV's motorcycle skills test, which is half of what you do to get your
M1 (motorcycle) license. The other half is the written test (samples
below).

Because the course is sanctioned by the state, it is similar to traffic
school in that if you show up late to any session, you are kicked out
and have to start all over again.

COST: $190.00

TIME LINE: It may take longer than you expect to get your license
going this route because there is currently a waiting list to get into
the course (in LA), which spans two weekends (half-day sessions on
Saturday and Sunday). When you complete the course, you do not have
your license, even if you already completed the DMV written! You must
WAIT for the certificate to be mailed to you. You take that to DMV,
get your picture taken, and WAIT again for your new license, and *then*
you have your license. (You can complete the DMV written now and get a
learner's permit, which allows you to ride during daylight hours only.
You won't be able to *rent* a bike with that, however.)

THE SESSIONS: Saturday sessions are classroom sessions and on Sundays
you ride, doing exercises in a parking lot. They supply you with a
motorcycle (like a Honda CB125). You can use your own bike if it is
not over 350cc.

WHO TAKES IT: If you are below a certain age (21 I think), you *must*
take it to get the license. There was one guy on my course who just
didn't want to do the DMV skills test on his own sport bike (he was
afraid he'd drop it).

The course is kind of fun, anyway. They told us that the motorcycle
mortality rate is way down since this program was implemented in
California in 1987.
