What's wrong with all of you people? "la.news" is for postings concerning
Usenet news server statistics, not for postings regarding things that might
be considered "news" in Los Angeles ... followups redirected accordingly.

Anyway ...

Chris, the point *you* seem to be missing is that talk of who has a "more
valid claim" is ludicrous. Does the word "Chumash" mean anything to you?

Surely the indigenous Native Americans of the region have a "more valid claim"
to (Southern) California than Mexico? The simple fact is that at some
point, people from the geographic region now known as "Mexico" emigrated up
the continent and took over a geographic region now known as "California".
At some later point in time, people from the geographic region now known as
the "Central and Eastern United States" emigrated Westward over the continent
and, in turn, took over a geographic region now known as "California". The
fact that the latter was expedited by coercion via armed force - as despicable
as it may have been - is somewhat irrelevant at this point. You can sit and
pretend it was all "illegal" back 150 years ago, but you need to deal with
reality *today* and that reality is that there is a geo-political entity
called "The United States of America" with geographical "boundaries" and
"laws" that people are basing their objections on.

(Note that I say "boundaries" and "laws" because, to be honest, I find the
whole notion of "countries" and geo-political entities to be ludicrous at
this point. I am a citizen of the planet Earth, thank you. Nationalism
fucking sucks. The person living in Vancouver WA has a lot more in common
with the person living a few miles away in Vancouver BC than they do with the
person living in Nashville TN, yet one is called "American" and the other
"Canadian". Who gives a fuck? But I Libertarianically digress ... )

The funny thing is that you and people on the other side of the coin like
BajaRat are both missing the point. 20 years ago, the San Fernando Valley was
a mostly lily-white Suburban "white flight" area. Now some parts of the
central SFV look like an upscale Barrio. And you know what? THERE AIN'T A
DAMN THING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. Standing in some park in the Valley waving
an American flag sure isn't going to do anything. The people from Mexico
came in and overtook by predominant numbers the land populated by the Chumash.
Then the "Americans" came in and overtook by predominant numbers (and force)
the land populated by the Mexicans. And now the Mexicans and Extended Mexicans
are doing the same, albeit in a non-forceful way. And so it goes, as it has
throughout history. I was originally from Massachusetts and have now lived
here for nearly 20 years. Things have really gone to hell in a handbasket
here in L.A. during that time. Mainly due to massive overpopulation (which
I'm sure is mostly LEGAL immigrants), and all of the side effects that begats.
But I'm not going to stop it, you're not going to stop it, BajaRat isn't
going to stop it, no one is. Deal with it.
