I've visited the Bay Area, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City,Seattle,
San Diego, Portland, Vancouver, San Diego, and
Chicago. Any of these places (well, maybe not Chicago, really), I'd
consider moving to, if I had a job lined up.

Preferable to LA? Maybe some things might be a bit nicer, but:
* most, if not all of these places have bad neighborhoods, ethnic
tensions, etc. as well. In Vancouver, they complain as much about
new Chinese immigrants as we do about "illegal aliens" in LA, for
example.

* on the other hand, places that don't have significant minority
popluations may not treat these people well, if they decide to
relocate there". (Really wacko groups are usually in the small towns
and outback, not in big cities like Boise, though).

* most still haven't got much of a transit system, so you'll sit around
on freeways a lot of the time getting from place to place. (It might
look free flowing now, but as more Californians settle in these places,
and take their 2.5 cars with them, you're going to notice it!"

I could go on and on, but why? Find a place you like living in, but
don't complain if there aren't "all the comforts of home there".

We were talking about the limited radio choices in most parts of the
country,
away from the big cities and coasts. Most of the time, you'll get a
rock station, a couple of country stations, at least one religious
station, and a growing number of talk stations. And maybe NPR.

In the rural South, you'll get soul and (maybe) gospel stations; out in
Texas and New Mexico, there may be lots of Spanish stations.

I'm not joking, I've travelled and know what's out there.
