Santa monica blvd should become a toll road during rush hour

ever tried to take the bus on Santa Monica blvd during rush hour? it
can take 2 or more hours to get from the beach to La Brea ave. Because
of this, I propose that Santa Monica should become a toll road for
rush hour times, being 7 dollars flat fee pr day. A SpeedPass type
system can be used to enforce this, with sensors in place so nobody
can drive more than a few blocks without being checked. @his should
enable access to businesses from side streets without charge. Traffic
lights should be set to give all minor side streets low priotrity on
traffic flow during this time. Also, when a bus or emergency vehicle
comes by, all lights should go red for the side streets to help make
bus riding/emergency vehicles mpve faster through the Blvd. I would
go so far as to use railroad style signals for this.

I hate Santa Monica blvd. It takes forever to go just a few blocks.
LA needs a good subway system.

Subways are expensive. L.A. should build elevated systems or monorails.

An elevated heavy rail system can be built for a tenth the cost of a subway.

Cool. Then let's have at it.

A subway makes more sense, unless a monorail can be proven to deliver
higher capacity. Capacity is critical.

In the short term, doing things like having dedicated bike lanes from the
beach to downtown AND making Santa Monica a toll road would both be cheap
and sensible.

That's exactly why neither will ever get done. Why the people of LA don't
demand better from their politicians will forever remain a mystery to me.
I don't live in LA anymore, but I still check this group periodically to
see if anything has changed.

And, nothing ever does change in LA. People seem to be suffocating more
and more in the insanity wrought by stupid politicians and corrupt
developers.

I've spent time in Sanf Francisco, New York, Chicago, Amsterdam, Berlin
and Paris. LA is by far the worst big city I have ever lived in. The
conditions are atrocious because the majority simply don't care about the
standard of living.

Sad, but true.

An elevated system would use the same rolling stock as the Red Line, but
operate 20" above the street and cost about a tenth what a subway would
cost.

Why is a subway better?

Sorry: The elevated railway proposition got voted down in the 1970's.

Because there would be sufficient clearance. I don't know of many
20-inch high vehicles.
