TOPIC: Intelligent Agents for Simulation Environments:
Intelligent Automated Pilots for Interactive Battlefields

SPEAKER: Prof. Paul Rosenbloom,
             USC ISI.

DATE: 15 November 1995 (Wednesday night)

TIME: The talk will begin at 7:30.

PLACE: Loyola Marymount University, Pereira Hall 51.
(Note change from the more usual Pereira 27.)
LMU is located at Loyola Blvd. and 80th Street in
Westchester. From the 405, take the Manchester exit
and proceed west to Loyola Blvd. Turn north, and
continue until you enter the LMU campus. Ask the
guard for directions to Pereira Hall. Parking is free.

ABSTRACT: Advanced distributed simulation (ADS) environments,
such as the DIS battlefield, provide virtual worlds
in which both people and intelligent (virtual) agents
can interact in unscripted ways. One of the ways that
AI can contribute significantly to their utility is
through the creation of intelligent agents that can
             replace and/or supplement human participants.
Professor Rosenbloom will describe recent work in
developing intelligent pilot agents for DIS. These
agents are based on Soar, an integrated AI/cognitive-modeling
architecture, and have already successfully participated in
an operational military exercise with human pilots.

BIOGRAPHY: PAUL ROSENBLOOM is an Associate Professor of Computer Science
at the University of Southern California (USC)
and the Deputy Director of the Intelligent Systems
Division at the USC Information Sciences Institute.
He received his B.S. degree in mathematical sciences
from Stanford University in 1976 and his M.S. and Ph.D.
degrees in computer science from Carnegie-Mellon
University in 1978 and 1983, respectively. He is a
Fellow of the AAAI and has been Chair of ACM SIGART
