For Robert Cote and all other involved in the infamous discussion of the
capacity of the transbay tube vs. the Bay Bridge, Wendell Cox as usual has
the answer on his Public Purpose web site. According to the always
misleading Wendell, the average rail line carries 1/5 the passengers as one
freeway lane and NO system carries more than 1/3 the "volume" of a single
freeway lane. So all of our calculations that seem to have indicated that
the tube carries about 2 to 3 times the number of passengers as one bridge
lane must have been off by an order of magnitude. If you believe that, I
have a Bay Bridge I would like to sell you.

You can read all about it at:

 http://www.publicpurpose.com/

(be warned that his writings might warp your mind).
