Mine does the same thing *if* the file that contains the matching string is a binary and not text file. I guess it's a feature to not trash your screen with a "line" from the binary file. peter Paul Taylor wrote in message <374E739F.93305ADD@ozemail.com.au>... >I've just installed RedHat 6.0 on my Intel and Sparc boxes, but have >noticed a problem with grep/fgrep/egrep on the Intel version. Instead >of returning the matching strings, it just returns the message "binary file ><blah> matches" when a match is found. The Sparc version works as >expected. > >Has anyone else noticed this? > >-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- > Paul Taylor Veni, vidi, tici - > birder@ozemail.com.au I came, I saw, I ticked.
