Hello
and thanks for any previous replies to my posts here,
Now I have had difficulty installing the emu10k1 driver so gave up and am
trying the alsa install.
I executed "./config" command after untarring the driver to /usr/src. I
get a problem "failed". Probably missing
"/usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h " or something very similar.
(yes I have all the libraries installed which the gcc requires)
according to the documentation for the alsa driver .. I quote:
==========================================
" If your ALSA drivers do not compile correctly and tell you
things about ``version.h'' or other
header-files that cannot be found, this can mean that
you do not have
the kernel header files. Take a look at the
kernel-HOWTO, unpack a recent kernel
in /usr/src and issue a make config. "
Fair enough - but How does one do this??
Any ideas:?
thanks in advance

The documentation says to run ./configure, but I don't know if it matters.

As the documentation says:
cd /usr/src/linux
make config
Just accept the default choices.
If you do not have the kernel source installed, it should come along on
the distro. On Redhat you would do a 'rpm -ivh kernel-source-$VERSION',
depending on which version of the kernel comes along.
