Has anyone got Linux running on an AMD-Athlon?

I'd be interested in knowing how well such a system performs (both price
and numerical power), and how it compares to a PIII or Alpha.

There's a review of the Athlon as a Linux box at

http://www.cpureview.com

A brief synopsis of the review:
it's the fastest x86 integer processor available today,
it's WAY (20-50%) faster at FP operations than the PIII, standard PIII
motherboards are NOT compatible, so you need a motherboard for it,
and it's a great CPU if you can build a system from it at the right price.

Rado
further to Robert's reply there is an article on performance optimizing
the Athlon for linux at

http://aboutlinux.com/art_k7opt1_a.html

aboutlinux.com looks like it will be a great site it was only started
last month

hope this helps

In order to run the Athlon you need to plug it into a motherboard.
I asked a couple of reps at the computer show last week, and production
boards are still about a month off.

And I'm sure there will need to be some tweaks of the kernel to best use
the Athlon's features.
