Dual booting Linux/NT okay ?

Friend of mine is dubious about Linux and NT4 on same hard disk. I can't
remember details, but I'm pretty sure it's not a problem. What's the
basic line on dual-booting and living on the same hard disk? Any
nasties?

TIA

Marcus

No problems, and actually some advantages. (Mounting the NTFS-partition
in Linux when you've done something stupid in NT..)

To avoid the (small) hassle of making/maintaining the bootmanagers in
LLinux/NT, I would recommend a seperate OS loader, check out the free
"Extended Operating System Loader", <URL:http://www.xosl.org>.

I install NT on the first partition, but do the partition and
with linux, put linux on the boot partition not on the MBR.

See
http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~zebee/laptop.html

It's my full description of how to do it. it's based on RedHat 5.2 but
if you use 6.1 in expert mode you'll get fdisk. Other distributions
you are on your own, but the theory should be the same.

It has a few UNSW specifics, but the basic setup will work
for anyone.

Works just great. Look at http://www.winimage.com/bootpart.htm for
some good pointers.

I use the NT (well, Win2k) loader to boot between Win2k, Win98, Linux
and 'Boot from floppy'.
