Macintosh network using NeXT server?

Does anyone have experience with using a NeXT as a "Unix server" or a
"Mathematica server" for a network of Macintoshes? The idea would be
to have a single NeXT connected to a network of 10 Macintoshes. The
Macs would telnet to the NeXT to use LaTeX, and would also use the
NeXT to run the backend of Mathematica. 2-3 users would be the most
using the NeXT at a time. I'm interested both in qualitative comments
(e.g., won't work) and quantitative comments (e.g., need at least 16
Meg on the NeXT).

Please email responses, and I'll summarize if there is interest.

Thanks for your help.
