SMCC is introducing a new SPARCstation IPX configuration with the
recently announced 16" Mid-Range monitor. The new configuration of the
SPARCstation IPX enables Sun to offer an even lower price for a
fully-configured, high performance accelerated color system.

The new monitor is a lower-priced aperture-grille product that offers
excellent text performance and very good graphics performance.
Compared to most monitors of this size available in the PC and Macintosh
environments, the Mid-Range monitor offers superior front-of-screen
performance and a larger screen.

The Mid-Range monitor also compares well with the existing Sun 16"
Premium Color Monitor, except that some very high-end technical
customers might prefer the latter.

Feature Benefit
-------------------------------------	--------------------------------
Lower cost Mid-Range Monitor Savings passed on to customers
					lowering the price for accelerated
					color graphics

Graphics Acceleration included Low cost availability of high
					performance graphics acceleration

2x Performance of IPC A high performance upgrade for
					customers currently using Intel-
					based 386 or 486 PCs

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE CONSIDERATIONS:

The new Mid-Range monitor will work with the existing GX framebuffer
without any hardware or software modifications.

The Mid-Range monitor has the same quality but lower front-of-screen
performance than the existing 16" Premium (Sony) monitor. In general,
this means that focus and clarity are slightly less, but perceiving the
difference is difficult and left only to well-trained eyes. The monitor
has the same Trinitron technology and look.

The Mid-Range product is ideally suited for text-based applications.
High-end technical, CAD and graphics customers might prefer the Premium
product over the Mid-Range because of the clarity and focus required when
spending a great deal of time in front of the workstation. The specs for
the Mid-Range product are similar to those for the Philips monitor used
with the LPC, but the quality and consistency of the Mid-Range are
significantly better.
