Hello. After a long time reading the canadian general newsgroups, I have come to the following conclusions: 1. Being a man in Canada, I had no idea there were so many ignorant men in this country. I'm no big fan of Barbera Amero's posts either, but c'mon...making rape jokes and downplaying some of our country's biggest tragedies for the sake of flaming? What a childish and insecure way to get kicks. Anyone who thinks rape and the murder of women is worthy of joking has obviously never had a wife, sister, or mother who has suffered at the hands of a man with a violent streak. Don't bother replying with "women are just as violent", because it simply isn't true. 2. Anti-Abortionists and Pro-Choice advocates will NEVER get each other to see the other way. These 1,000-post threads are becoming redundant and boring. Arguing whether a fetus is human or not for weeks may be self satisfying, but I cannot for the life of me find the point. Either you believe in a woman's freedom to abort, or you don't. Cramming ideas down peoples' throats rarely gets the desired result. 3. The Reverend Donald Spitz is a fucking psychopath who needs a bit of a reality check. I think everyone can agree on that. I've begun ignoring his posts, and I suggest others do the same. 4. Too many people have too much time on their hands. After sorting through the zillions of posts from Barbera Amero and her many foes, I realized that they must spend hours per day researching and posting this stuff. I suggest that if someone feels as strongly as they seem to about these issues, aren't there better ways to help "your side"? Instead of spending 4 hours in front of the computer picking out other peoples' spelling and gramatical errors, why not go spend 4 hours volunteering in a position that actually furthers your cause? I like Usenet as much as anyone, but I also believe that arguing over statistics and flaming people in newsgroups does absolutely NOTHING to further the credibility of what you believe in. Revolution ain't gonna happen over the internet, people. ----------------------------- Ken <ken at netshelf dot com> Brandon, Manitoba Canada -----------------------------
