For some pecular reason I cannot retrieve Ms. Boudreau's comments [not
even thru Deja News] so I will have to rely on what Mr. Gall has
quoted. He has basically stated what I feel. Quebec has everything to
do with official bilingualism. The whole idea was to appease Quebec.
The effect has been the opposite. It has led to resentment in the West
and THAT has been one of the most divisive forces in this country. I
call upon the Swiss example once again. It has 2 "official" languages
in 2 separate parts of the country. No nation-wide bilingualism and a
strongly united country. You speak French in the French section and
German in the German section. Who was here first is irrelevant. They
are all dead now. A strong culture will survive anything, a feeble one
will not, even with government intervention. The only thing that can
"kill" a culture [short of genocide] is apathy.
