``The Wages of Weirdness'' a lecture on the importance of music education and the pursuit of art within an industry. Speakers: The Dixie Dregs -- Steve Morse, Rod Morgenstein, Dave LaRue and Jerry Goodman (Mahavishnu Orchestra) Place : Room 26 Leacock Building McGill University 3:30pm Wednsday Oct 7th With origins at the innovative University of Miami music department as a class project, legendary instrumental rock ensemble -- The Dixie Dregs-- will lecture on the importance of music education and share tales regarding the pursuit of art. The Dregs gained notoriety for being one of the finest live acts with their unique brand of music. Composer Steve Morse describes the music as ``electronic chamber music''. However the lack of singular classification posed many problems within the music industry. Special speaker for this lecture is violinist Jerry Goodman of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame (The pioneers of the jazz/rock movement). The collective diverse experiences of the speakers provide a unique insight on music and the realities of pursuing art. After the lecture, there will be a question period. All are welcome. -- ouij@math.mcgill.ca
