November 17, 1995 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ===================== MCSNet has decided to make the investment necessary to bring the FOUR STAR edition of Clarinet, the *FULL* Clarinet electronic newswire service, to all of our untimed account holders (PACKRat and Subscriber accounts). This makes MCSNet the only ISP in Chicagoland with this greatly-enhanced news and information service, updated around the clock. According to Clarinet's documentation, this service encompasses approximately 2,000 articles in 460 newsgroups and includes content from both the Associated Press and Reuters. Also included for those customers operating in a graphical environment and reading news via NETSCAPE or other image-capable browsers is photographic content. Image-enhanced articles are marked with the "[Sm" or "[Lg" tag in front of the subject of the news item and display automatically for those newsreaders which are image-capable. The new content and groups are available *now* to all of our individual customers who have personal accounts (whether used for business or personal access). MCSNet has been beta testing the new edition for approximately one week. This content enhancement is a major differentiating factor between MCSNet and other ISPs in Chicagoland. Our customers have been telling us that they are interested not just in Internet access, but news and informational content as well. The addition of this service is part of MCSNet's continuing commitment to provide superior service to our customers. Note that organizational LINK and UUCP customers *cannot* receive this content as part of their service due to contractual restrictions present in Clarinet's agreement with us that prevent redistribution -- these customers must individually contract with Clarinet Communications. Clarinet sales has informed MCSNet that we are one of only two ISPs in the country that have, as of a few days ago, signed up for this greatly enhanced level of service. Clarinet Sales has also confirmed that no other Chicagoland ISP has this level of service available to their customers. Full information on the differences between the feeds that may be available at different Chicagoland ISPs, as well as general information and pricing for organizations which are connected directly to the Internet can be found at http://www.clari.net/ Information on subscribing or switching to MCSNet can be found on our web page at http://www.mcs.net, or by sending email to our "infobot" at "info@mcs.net". Customers switching to MCSNet from any other local ISP can receive up to one month of free access with proof of their paid subscription on the competing service. Karl--the change was pretty apparent several days ago (actually, I was away until Tuesday). It is a big improvement, and much appreciated. ======================================== /bob/ thompson@robin.tezcat.com (Bob Thompson) =========================================
