emv mentions INN (the greatest thing since sliced bread? the future
of news on the Internet? A news system that's comprehensible by mere
mortals again?). I've been using it for over a year now, but....

The news reading system I left behind at Yale did (does?) NEWGROUPS correctly:
C News circa 1990, nntp 1.5.11, both stock, except for the relaynews
daemon mods.

Assuming you're running C news:
Configure common/conf.h in the nntp distribution for CNEWS, and make sure
that ACTIVE_TIMES_FILE points to the correct thing. And it just sort of
works.
