When I worked at the Jeep dealership they had an incentive program based on how satisfied the customer was- it was all done through surveys of customers who had recently been to the shop. My job was to make sure the mechanics did their job right. Some of them had worked at a company you are probably familar with, and they were used to going in to work on Monday, removing a part, walking it to the machine shop, drinking coffee the rest of the day, picking up the part fro the machine shop on Tuesday and reinstalling it. They were used to hourly pay because the UNION had negotiated it. They worked in a car dealeship because the UNION drove the former employer out of business. Who was it? Eastern Airlines. Flat pay is better. >>test drives and setting up the alignment machine. We charge - suprise! >>45 minutes labor for all front end and one hour labor for all four >>wheel alignments. So I'm still "beating the system", but by a factor >>of 15 to 30 minutes instead of 45 to two and a half! >
