It's good to see someone posting who actually understands the meaning of the word "fair." Edward N. Kurmudgeon<edwardk@aimnet.com> wrote: > >Well, I am not sure, Travis. So, don't you think he should pay more since he has a >larger stake in this Russian thing? Geez, you bigot! This is nothing but rich bashing by a jealous person. The government does not exist to protect property, it exists to protect freedom. While one of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans is to collect and build wealth, it is not primary. Bill Gates would suffer exactly the same loss of freedom as any homeless family were the US Government to fall to an agressive foreign agent. Now if you want to talk about local property taxes - which only exist to make one's property more valuable through police protection, good schools, etc. - then, yes, those with more should pay more because it directly effects the value of the services received. This still has no basis on the amount of money one has, merely the amount they wish to spend on real property. |Jim Miller, Jr. <jmillerjr@lsfcu.org> Systems Administrator| |Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union Jersey City, New Jersey USA| |Eagle Scout - '88 Vigil - '94 Meechgalhukquot-"Redheaded One"| |Advisor, Explorer Post 348 Hudson Liberty Council, BSA| | "Robin Hood was NOT a hero, just the lesser of two evils." | | http://www.njaccess.com/jim/ |
