Announcing: Plex-2 (plex-2.ann-arbor.mi.us)

On Monday Oct. 5, 1992 Plex-2 will be on-line providing S.E. Michigan with
Usenet News and UUCP/Email accounts. Plex-2 is a Plexus P/60 68020 running
UNIX Sys5.2 S1.7 with 8.0 Mb of RAM and 600+ Mb of disk space (with two North-
ern Telecom 350 Mb SMD drives if/when needed). Currently, Plex-2 has 1 14.4
Supra and one 2400 USR Courier for News Pickup and is fed a FULL news feed
via Plex-1 (which will still have it's 5 2400 baud modem lines).

There are currently 24 working ports on the P/60 and we will be offering
everything from X amount of open access UUCP lines to private connections on
your own DIRECT and private port. Since my house is wired for 21 incoming
phone lines, a DIRECT connection to Plex-2 will save you money against those
.062 cent calls. We have been running a DIRECT phone connection to iunet for
months now which allowed us to poll every 5 minutes 24 hours a day with calls
nowhere near 400 per month.

To date we have been running the Plex Project as a Public Access Usenet
News entity, attempting to serve the publics Usenet News needs and lower
the systems UUCP load of the Universities providing us with our news. The
Plex Project is run 100% on donations from our users interested in having
a public voice in how Plex-1 & 2 are run. We have a large interest from our
users in forming a more formal group (I'll be posting more about this later),
so if you are interested in helping our group/system or you're just interested
in a little more information feel free to mail me at one of the addresses list-
ed in the .signature below.
