Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask but I don't know where else to go.

Is there a way to find out if someone has an account on the internet or
UUCP,
I mean a way to search for a correct path address?

for example: I want to send mail to Richard B. Lane
                                        Dept. of Mathamatics
                                        University of Montana

But I do not know if he has an account or not. (I realize that I can always
use the US postal service, but hey that costs 29 cents and is too easy).

I just want to know for future reference if there is a way to search for
somebody's uucp or internet address if you don't know it or have lost it.

thanks for your time.

try "lane@selway.umt.edu".

the command I used to find this was "netfind". it's a server running in
Colorado built by Mike Schwartz, a sort of a super "finger". The search
string I used was
	lane montana
It gave me back a dozen sites in Montana that are on the net, and from
there did the search through the umt.edu campus.

to use it
	netfind on Msen
	telnet bruno.cs.colorado.edu; login: netfind
in the gopher "Phone Books" menu on most gophers

There are other ways of finding people, depending on what you know about
them. If they post netnews you can find them with the "usenet-addresses"
server. If they run a UUCP site you can look in the UUCP maps. If you
know what organization they belong to you can send mail to postmaster at
that site and get details from there.

hope this helps,
