That's correct. However, before the team of regional coordinators built
tools to automate the map process, some coordinators did a better job
than others. Also the turnover of coordinators doesn't help. Recent
CA updates (or lack thereof) are good examples.

There are about 30, if my memory is correct, duplicate names in the maps
at the moment. When duplicate names exist for longer than a year, it
gets real fuzzy as to which site started using the name first.

Since most SA's are concerned about receiving ALL their mail, generally
they are willing to reach some sort of consensus. Then there are
others....

domain style addressing doesn't completely resolve the problem.
Remember that the way most people set up their uucp connections only
use their hostname portion of the domain name. This name must also be
unique. Also impacted are applications like c-news. Once news passes
through the first site, the second site will drop it into the bit bucket
thinking it has already received that message.

Fortunately, must of the recent uucp implementations allow the use of
a different uucp name than the real hostname. This is a good quick fix
if all the local applications use only the fully qualified domain name.
