Deploying signed Borland JBCL-based applets with IE4 - problem with CABs?

Hi!

I have the following problem trying to deploy an applet written using
JBCL library. When I package everything in a CAB file (and it has to
be a CAB in order to be signed for IE), including _complete_ JBCL
library, I get a bunch of exceptions thrown by Borland's TreeControl,
complaining that it cannot find various .gif images, such as hlines.gif,
or flatLL.gif. This is how they look like:

loadFromResource IOException name=image/flatUL.gif component=null
cl=class borland.jbcl.view.GridView
loadFromResource IOException name=image/hlines.gif
component=borland.jbcl.util.DottedLine$1[,0,0,0x0,invalid] cl=class
borland.jbcl.util.DottedLine

The workaround is to uncompress the gif files in a directory on a
server from which the applet is loaded (keeping the tree structure),
which doesn't seem to be a very elegant solution. It is interesting
that Swing doesn't have the same problem and seems to be able to
load it's required images (icons, etc.) from CAB files without
problems. So the conflict seems to be between the way Borland
loads the images and the way Microsoft packages them. Can somebody
suggest a solution? Since Swing works fine, I'm inclined to think
that this needs to be fixed in JBCL's source code, but if somebody
thinks otherwise, I would be more than grateful for a fix! Thanks
in advance...
